1805 Breeches from Evolution of Fashion
Seeing as the last pair of breeches we made were rather rushed and far from satifactory, I have decided to make a brand new pair which are as historically accurate as possible.
Items to make:
- breeches
The Breeches
I decided to use two patterns, one from The Cut of Men's Clothes, the other The Evolution of Fashion and to merge them together to create the pattern. I am unfortunatly have quite a bit of trouble finding fabric, however I should have managed to find some by the end of the month as I have found a source and just need to make sure its exactly right before I buy it.
02/08/05 Finally found some fabric. It wasn't very cheep but it is perfect. The muslin only needs one more fitting before the fabric can be cut so hopefully they will be finished before the Jane Austen Fayre in three weeks time.
12/08/05 Lining finished and fitted. Only have the outerfabric to go, then we'll be almost finished. Not entirly sure what will be used for buttons though.
17/08/05 Now all that needs doing is to attatch the lining and do the finishing touches (buttons etc.). Looks like they will actually be finished!
23/08/05 They are finished and were succesfully worn at the Jane Austen Fayre! Unfortunatly some minor ajustments are needed before the festival, but on the whole they were succesful FINISHED
Breeches Continuation:
14/09/05 As breeches have a tendency to fall down, even with braces, they were laced or buckeled at the back. To optimise the fit of out breeches, we decided to add one to the back. Hopefully this will make them more managable for the festival this weekend.
Accessories
- stockings
Seeing as white mens stockings seem to be in very short supply, I decided to fashion some out of a pair of cotton tights. These worked very effectivly. However the garters did not...
